I am definitely a math and science person and therefore turned to Calculus for this past project. I like the reliability of math and how everything fits together and I am already predetermined to get one answer and one answer alone. The main shape in the image is that of the integral symbol. I like the swooping ends of the shape and felt that the image needed a pop of color. I think the piece reflects the idea and concepts found in the math and physics in the fact that it is very structured and has an equal and opposite force.

Binh Danh's chlorophyll transfers really fascinate me. Danh uses organic shapes that contrast with He uses a special process to convey very powerful images on such a fragile medium; leaves. Such powerful images force the viewers to question and ponder. They may come to the realization that there is so much to be done for others and they can help contribute to the effort. Or maybe they are forced to remember and reflect on events of the past.  Maybe they reflect on family ties and relationships or perhaps question commodity and wealth.
I want to do the same.

"My work leads me into forests ot encounter how the fundamental forces of nature act on the figure of wood."
I like the idea of an imperfections, such as a knot in wood, being turned into a beautiful work of art. I can see how people may not view this as art but I disagree. He searches, sands, polishes, and most importnatly arranges the composition. I would like to play with something along these lines for upcoming projects.

"She is known for her Renaissance-style marquety and woodwork depicting contempory subject matter. Marquetry is the art of applying pieces of veneer to a structure to form designs or pictures."
These pieces really interest me; i Liket he woodgrain and technique as well as the subject matter.
I think that this artist is very applicable to my work and I think that she;'' become a great influence on my future pieces.
I want to explore different types of wood and comibing them into one piece. I also want to portray contemporary scenes using my clear sheet transfers.
I love the emotion in each character's facical expressions and that's what I strive for in my pieces. I want to portray emotion to evoke emotion. However, I want it to be subtle.

This piece was inspired by the events of September 11th.  It is a symbol of both the breaking apart of families and the buildings themselves but also the building up of a country, a country coming together against a common force. While there is much debate over the events following that day, everyone agrees that that day should never be forgotten and neither should the lives that were lost.

I really enjoyed the freedom of this piece and the liberties that I was able to take with it. No one really understood my idea when the piece was in its planning stages. Making this piece was even more exciting because I was able to show those same people that I was sane and wasn't just babbling nonsense.  I am very proud of the outcome.

Inspiration:
I returned to previous concepts and techniques that I have studied in the past, such as image transferring. I was reminded of why I loved making such pieces. I love the calculated system and list of steps. I love how I get to edit images and make them my own. I love how I have my own process that few understand when creating these pieces. It makes it personal and unbelievably my own. I want to continue creating such pieces but I am inspired to develop more techniques that I can call my own.

Materials: wood, stain, spackle, clear gloss, wire, staples

I approached this project in a much different way than my previous works. I normally plan out and decide ahead of time the general direction in which I wanted my piece to go. Instead, I got out supplies and began. I liked this different approach and am pretty happy with some of the pieces that I created. I liked exploring and feel that this project will contribute to my future work and style. I am looking forward to taking what I learned about materials/texture and applying it.

I study the idea of compliments and contrast; the cliché of standing apart and being different. Although it is an unoriginal idea, it is a traditional concept for the reason that it rings true for most. I stand apart, not in my appearance or interests, but with my traditional, “old-school” values. And yet, while being true to the person I am, I must find a way to interact and connect with the others my age who are so much different than I. Despite all this, it is ironic that men and women, including myself, comment on this idea of being unique and going against the norm, when truly if everyone claims to be unique, is anyone?
